“My family is so important to me.”
A 20 minute interview with my great grandmother at a fish fry a couple weekends ago and this was her constant theme: family.
Born in Macclenny, Florida on September 28, 1921, Isabel Louise Rose Johnson had 5 brothers. She met and married her sweetheart, B Vining, at a young age and had 5 children who went on to give her numerous grand children and way too many great-grandchildren to count. A widowed matriarch by the age of 52, Isabel continued to raise her children and lead her family with support and help from her church family in Glen St. Mary, Florida..
For as long as I can remember, my great grandmother has been small, wrinkled, and soft spoken. She genuinely greets me each time I see her and she is sincerely concerned with my life. Within 2 minutes of each conversation with her, she brings up Jesus, God’s grace, or prayer. She believes that people were made to be in fellowship with their creator, God, and that prayer is simply talking to God. Her prayers consist of repentance for wrong doings, praise for God’s blessings and the communication that He allows her to have with Him, and intercession for her family members.
My great grandmother’s story is more than a 5 minute long video.
It is more than a 20 minute long interview.
Her story is 93 years long and it is filled with service, laughter, tears, joy, pain, family, God’s blessings, and prayer.
Lots and lots of prayer.
